MPE GPU Acceleration with a GTX 480

    smitpr1

      Hi,

I added the line "GeForce GTX 480" in the cuda_supported_cards.txt file.  MPE became available upon doing so.  However rendering is faster in software than using the GPU.  Did I miss something?

That may be because software render does not use maximum render quality by default and hardware assisted render uses maximum quality all the time. In your case not using maximum quality software render ostensibly outweighs the hardware render. Look here on the background page for more information: PPBM5 Benchmark

Did you check that the settings in the Nvidia control panel 3D Settings, and your Premiere project are correct for using the hardware acceleration?  I had to reset both of these after editing the CUDA txt file.

When I try to run the PPBM CS5 Benchmark I get an error saying:

"This project was last used with Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration, which is not available on this system.  Mercury Playback Engine Software Only will be used."

Not sure what to look at from here.

In the Nvidia Control panel it mentions Adobe CS4 (not sure why - I never owned that version - using CS5).  Under manage 3D settings the CUDA - GPUs is set to GeForce GTX 480.  Is this all I need to check for?

Disregard my note.  Some how I mistyped to say 470 instead of 480 in the text file.  It was right and I was rechecking and somehow changed it.

I installed the GTX 480, added it to the text file,. Now I have

MPE GPPU available as well as MPE software available. My tests show no difference. The GPU is only used about 7% and my CPU's are still maxed out.

Did you set your project to use hardware MPE, or is it still in software mode?
