    Can encore chapter markers auto shift after ripple delete?

    avpromedia Community Member

      I need to break up a 4 hours sequence into two shorter ones to make 2 dvds. However I've already marked all the chapters. I duplicate this long sequence and ripple delete the first half to make the 2nd dvd sequence. However the encore chapter markers didn't move with the ripple delete. Is there a way to attach these markers to certain location of the video clips so I don't have to move them when I change the length of the sequence?

      using premiere and encore cs4

          Chapter Markers are tied to the Timeline, and not to the Clips on the Timeline.

          If they have been applied, and the Clips are then changed, one will have to manually reposition them.

          Sorry,

          PS - Clip Markers would be tied to the Clips, but they do not act as Chapter Markers. Many have filed a Feature Request to have Chapter Markers possess a toggle to attach them to either the Timeline, or to the Clips.

            As Bill notes, the answer to yor question is "no."

            My first reaction was to say to just set two different work areas and export.  The Encore markers stay.  But you want a dynamic link.  I didn't work in CS4 enough (and not enough yet in CS5) to know if you can limit a sequence DL to the work area.

              One work-around I can think of is to put a bunch of minute-long dummy video clips on a track and position them on the desired chapter point. These clips would shift along with ripple delete, and I can move the chapter points to line up with these dummy clips quickly.

              For the current project I don't plan to ripple delete or change the length anymore, so I manually re-position the chapter points this time, for the last time I hope.

              I did switch to dynamic link -- seems to be the only way to get the chapter points into encore, and I'll admit it's an improvement over cs3 where I export an avi file and import that into encore.

                Interesting concept.

                I could see a 1 - 2 Frame Color Matte in Greenscreen green. With Show First Frame on in thumbnail display, one could spot those guys (with the Timeline zoomed in) pretty easily.

                Thanks for sharing,

                  I've done similar, when I had to Export a rough-cut, work on it, and then Import it back. The ugly green Color Mattes are easy to spot, so you know exactly where the "cut" will be. It's a lot easier (for me anyway) than trying to spot where a Butt-Cut was, in the now combined output file.
