    Why does everything look better in Fireworks?

    themaindjd
      Hi all

      I like to design my websites in Fireworks and then transfer to Dreamweaver. The problem is that everything looks better in Fireworks. The fonts seem richer and stand out more. Why is this? Also is there any way to make the fonts look better with out using images?

      Any advice and help is appreciated

      Kind Regards

          If you will take time to read through this NG you will learn the
          overwhelming consensus here is that your practice, although common, is
          unwise at best. Design your graphic elements - ONLY - in FW (or Photoshop,
          PhotoPaint, PaintShop Pro, etc.) and export them individually as PNGs or
          JPEGs. Then assemble your page in DW.

          As to things looking differently, I would just write that off to FW & DW
          being completely different apps with different purposes. Beyond that I would
          have to see some examples of what you are seeing.

            <side note>
            that's windows way of displaying font.
            On a Mac (or on the Safari browser on windows) your font will look the same.
            </side note>

            It's a bad practice to design your layout in FireWorks and export it to Dreamweaver as code and
            sliced images.
            This produces unreliable and fragile code, which will most likely break apart if you edit your text
            content or increase your text size using your browser preferences.

            The better approach is to create just the individual graphic elements you need in FireWorks, and
            then build your layout in Dreamweaver and insert your graphics in the Dreameaver layout.

              With an image you can use any font you wish and have it show
              the same on all computers. However with HTML, the font you
              specify must be on the computer of the user to render correctly.
              That's why it's strongly suggested that you use standard fonts and
              a font family (font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;) for your
              HTML pages.

                I only do the design in Fireworks as a plan. I do all my coding in Dreamweaver and import any images. I know what you mean about the "fragile code" as I tried this once...very messy!
