    Shopping Carts

    Level 7

      Hi

Does anyone know where I can buy an add-on for Dreamweaver to build an
      online shop (Shopping cart)

      Regards

      Helen

i don't think there is an add on for this. Shopping carts are extremely
complex. THere are several good ones out there but be prepared to pay $250US
and way up. In addition to all of the work that a cart does to find yoiur
products, descriptions, prices and product images from a database, you will
also need to set up a merchant account at your bank and get a processor like
Verisign (PayPal) to process credit cards.

There is way more to it than slapping on a plug in and going to town...

You van set up a manually updated shopping cart with Paypal if you want to
manage a few items. Or you can use the PayPal shopping cart software for a
little more robust version. But be prepared for a lot of hand coding either
          way...

            http://www.cartweaver.com

It includes a DW extension but is not exactly plug & play. Still, an
excellent cart and pretty easy to deploy.

I agree. Cartweaver is robust but probably the easiest cart you
will ever find to implement. Very reasonable pricing too. And as
mentioned, comes in 3 flavors: ASP, PHP, CF

                Well, I stand corrected!

Thanks all for the added info...

Definitely. But again, plan to do lots of hand-coding.

                    Only partially. :-)

As I suggested CW is deployed with a DW extension but there is still
significant *tinkering* to do to get everything working. It's not quite as
simple as, say, a P7 menu system which can be implemented mostly by filing
                    in blanks and checking options.

Not a knock on CW, just the reality of dealing with scripting, databases,
etc. There is only so much that can be made automatic.

Or, at least, that's my perception.

Finally, one beauty of CW compared to some other cart solutions, is you pay
once and deploy for an unlimited number of carts/clients.
