1. Re: Importing 44100kHz 24-bit audio into 48kHz 16-bit project...
Colin Brougham Sep 9, 2010 9:03 AM (in response to naartjie gello)Should be fine, but as a point of interest, I convert any "weird" or compressed formats into 48kHz 32-bit floating point WAVs using Soundbooth before editing. This probably isn't necessary, but it's just a standard workflow I've adopted.

naartjie gello Sep 9, 2010 9:08 AM (in response to Colin Brougham)Thanks for the info, Colin I think I'll follow suit.
Cheers.

JSS1138 Sep 9, 2010 11:06 PM (in response to naartjie gello)Premiere doesn't work with any actual audio files. It converts everything you import into 32 bit floating-point file for internal use. (That's what the CFA files are.) So you should be fine importing any audio format Premiere will accept without conversion, because even after conversion, Premiere will do it's own.

Steve C2 Sep 10, 2010 9:20 AM (in response to JSS1138)Jim,
Does one risk possible synchronization problems with a long clip if the audio sampling was not done at 48khz?
Thanks,
Steve

JSS1138 Sep 10, 2010 8:25 PM (in response to Steve C2)No. Sampling rate won't affect duration at all, only the highest frequencies encoded.

6. Re: Importing 44100kHz 24-bit audio into 48kHz 16-bit project...
Steve C2 Sep 11, 2010 8:38 AM (in response to JSS1138)Hi Jim,
I wasn't clear. I'm referring to synchronization and clocking issues more than duration. I don't think that the sample rate matters if one is just using music for a soundtrack, but if one is , for example, recording audio and video at a concert, independently of each other, then it could matter depending on the answer to this question. I have heard (and I don't know whether its true), that even some timecode synchronization systems don't do a perfect job at synchronization. From personal experience, I have seen that two different digital recorders (they were different brands) will not necessarily stay in sync with each other when recording at the same sample and bit rates.
Thanks,
Steve

7. Re: Importing 44100kHz 24-bit audio into 48kHz 16-bit project...
JSS1138 Sep 11, 2010 9:19 AM (in response to Steve C2)It is (unfortunately) true that recording audio separately can cause sync issues, especially with DV. (Though why that is true is beyond me, as all DV cameras I've ever used seem fully capable of keeping in sync with each other.) But any resampling done, whether by you manually or within Premiere automatically, should not cause that issue.
