1. Re: Logo--rasterize, expand, vector, I'm confused.
Wade_Zimmerman Sep 11, 2010 9:13 AM (in response to auctioneer)You keep the vector as master for repurposing.
If you intend to use it one your website and you are using Dreamweaver CS 4 or 5 then you can do this if you also have Photoshop CS 4 or CS 5.
Place the or open the AI logo file in Photoshop as a Smart Object.
Save it
Then place the Photoshop file in Dreamweaver as a Smart Object this will give you the best results if you re resizing the logo in Dreamweaver or in Photoshop.
If you want to size the file yourself and do not trust that procedure, you still keep the Vector file as a master use the Save for Device and Web as the means of export as either png or jpeg, png supports transparency and current browser support it, jpeg is a bit more widely support all browsers support but des not support transparency.
png and jpeg of course are raster image formats needed for web display unless you use svg which is not support by nearly as many browsers. But is a vector format that can be displayed in a browser. I do not know the current thinking on svg.
There is of course flash as well and using the vector master logo art will come in handy there as well as the file can be brought into flash.
So save the Vector and export or place from AI to the other programs or formats.

2. Re: Logo--rasterize, expand, vector, I'm confused.
auctioneer Sep 11, 2010 10:30 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Thank you for the reply.
Just so I can wrap my brain around this and understand a little better I need to ask;
1-the 'ai' file is the vector image?
2-before saving the 'ai' file should I 'expand' this logo or do nothing?
3- is the 'ai' file high resolution used for print?
4-when I use the 'export for web' this rasterizes the image?
Sorry to be a PITA
Thanks..

Jacob Bugge Sep 11, 2010 10:58 AM (in response to auctioneer)auctioneer,
1-the 'ai' file is the vector image?
Yes (or rather, the vector artwork is in the AI file (AI files may contain raster (effects))).2-before saving the 'ai' file should I 'expand' this logo or do nothing?
No: just keep the vector artwork unchanged, you may use different layers for different versions.
3- is the 'ai' file high resolution used for print?
The vector artwork in the AI file is vector, and has no limited resolution (you can resize it freely without any pixelation/loss of smoothness).
4-when I use the 'export for web' this rasterizes the image?
Yes. You may go through Photoshop or whatever, or you may Save for Web (& Devices) in AI; especially if you want a crisp image and/or transparency, you should use PNG (and know the ways round old versions of Internet Explorer) or GIF and set the size in pixels to the size on the website (the quality is destroyed if you resize (apart from halving)); in connexion with transparency (where the background is seen through parts of the image) you should set the Matte colour appropriately).

Wade_Zimmerman Sep 11, 2010 4:03 PM (in response to Jacob Bugge)Jacob says it like it is I think you should be fine with this from now on but if you still are confused before returning try and re read his response.
