1. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
George_Johnson Sep 21, 2010 11:59 AM (in response to Art.Ball)After setting the password(s), save the document, close, and reopen. Can you remove/change the password in the same way now?

2. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
Art.Ball Sep 21, 2010 5:10 PM (in response to George_Johnson)Of course, I tested for a few machines with same file. The result is same.
If you have acrobat 9 you may test by input same password as I mentioned.

George_Johnson Sep 21, 2010 6:24 PM (in response to Art.Ball)Maybe you should give detailed instructions to duplicate what you're doing. I cannot duplicate the problem that I think you're describing.

4. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
Art.Ball Sep 21, 2010 6:55 PM (in response to George_Johnson)Set password security:
1. Open some pdf then set to Password Security.
(Document Properties -> Security -> Security Method: Password Security)
2. Password Security - Settings dialog will be shown then set Change Permission Password to "abcde". (only alphabet abcde)
3. Click OK button then save pdf and close it.
Bug test in Acrobat 9
1. Open above secured pdf.
2. Set pdf to No Security.
(Document Properties -> Security -> Security Method: No Security)
3. At Enter Password:, input "mz" (only alphabet mz) then click OK button.
Now you can see that it works even password "mz" !!!

George_Johnson Sep 21, 2010 10:59 PM (in response to Art.Ball)That is odd. How did you come up with those combinations?

I reproduced it (Acrobat Pro 9.3.4 Win), using the specific passwords the OP used.

9. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
Polda2 Sep 26, 2010 9:39 AM (in response to George_Johnson)Reproduced in Acrobat 9.3.4 Win XP.
Acrobat 8.1.2 and 7.0.8 do not accept the "mz" password.

10. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
lrosenth Sep 26, 2010 9:13 PM (in response to Polda2)It appears to be something NEW to 9.3.4 and ONLY applies to PDFs that have permissions only passwords (which aren't recommended anyway) and ONLY to the older encryption algorithms.

11. Re: Is this bug of password security in Acrobat 9?
Art.Ball Sep 30, 2010 6:34 AM (in response to lrosenth)NEW !? ONLY !?
So user should avoid using older version of security format !?
I wonder if I test on the next version of acrobat, will it occur again or not when I set to old security format?
