Audio doesn't show up in my AVCHD files

I'm evaluating Adobe Premier trial version to see if it's going to be suitable for editing my AVCHD files from a consumer video camera. The files have a 5.1 soundtrack. When I import them into Premier, the sound cannot be found - Premier treats them as if they have no soundtrack. I don't have this problem with, for example, avi files, and my files definitely have sound as I can hear it in Windows Media Player.

It is actually stated that AVCHD files are not supported in the trial version. Could this be my problem? I'm not certain because the video component seems to be present usable. I want to be sure of this, because I really don't want to buy the program and then discover that they still don't work.

      Thanks for any help!

      Cheers,

      Ben
