Bill Hunt Sep 24, 2010 9:18 AM (in response to candidhd)While not addressing authoring, and Encore, the link in this ARTICLE might be informative.
Good luck,

Hello,
I'm very interested in authoring 3D BD, using the new Profile 5 MVC spec for full 1920x1080 resolution for each eye (not squished side-by-side format, which can easily be done in previous versions of PPro and Encore, but cuts the horizontal resolution in half).
Currently Encore CS5 does not provide for true BD 3D authoring. The only solutions available are 80k-100k workstations, or netBlender's doStudio 3D, which costs about $7k.
With the expolsion in consumer interest in 3D Blu-Ray, the demand for 3D BD content will soon be exploding. I currently have a number of titles shot and edited in full HD 3D, waiting for a cost-effective authoring solution.
When will Adobe be offering a solution for true 3D dual stream BD authoring? Please, please, please Adobe, update Encore and allow 3D MVC authoring.
As an aside - for those shooting for eventual release in BD 3D, keep in mind that the profile 5 spec DOES NOT allow for 60i or 30p frame rates at 1080p -- only 24p. Learned this lesson the hard way as already shot a number of titles in 30p, now have to do the time-consuming and not perfect conversion of all footage to 24p for 3D BD authoring.
Any input on when this will become a reality is much appreciated!
PatPS: also posted this in feature requests, sorry to cross-post but was not sure which would be the proper forum for this topic.
No chance at all. The licensing costs alone are $6,000 - which is what NetBlender are charging.
Sonic want far, far more - and there are as yet no players that can actually output this.
Before any of this frippery, we really need proper support for lossless surround - right now, it is Dolby Digital only.
LPCM at a minimum should be supported

Bill Hunt Sep 27, 2010 1:41 PM (in response to Neil Wilkes)Regarding the 3D material, two close friends spent a great deal of time at the recent CES, studying the technology and equipment. One is in the development end of things, and another a major distributor of home theater and pro gear. Both felt that it would be another two generations, before the technology was even remotely ready for "prime time." Since CES, I think we are seeing the next generation of gear starting to be readied. Only time will tell.
Considering the number of viewers, who have experienced headaches and blurred vision, after attending large-screen 3D showings, I wonder how viable this will really be. Again, only with the passage of time, shall we know.
