    sprite properties in property inspector

    Level 7
Rather than typing in each sprite property name with the sprite number in
the property inspector, I'd like to show all properties of a particular
sprite with one entry. This has been answered before here but I've
      forgotten how to do it.

I thougth it was something like:

      sprite (1).scriptInstanceList [1]

but that's not it. I'm sure Sean will know.

That's a lot of faith you seem to be investing, Craig!
You could try adding simply 'sprite(num)'

Nah, I tried that. It was something like what I posted but I'm missing one
            small element.

Are you talking about "default" properties like loc, blend, etc., or
properties of attached behaviors, or member properties specific to type?
              • 4. Re: sprite properties in property inspector

I'm referring to user defined properties that fall next to the property
                keyword in a behavior.

                sprite (5).scriptinstancelist[1]

...gives the object name and memory position but there's something I can add
to that that will break out the properties I've added to that behavior so I
don't have to type each one into the Property Inspector when I want to watch
                them.

When I add the above to my Object Inspector and hit the (+) next to it,
it shows me all the assigned properties and associated values. Do you
                  not see this?

                    Level 7
Yes, I now see that. For some bazaar reason, when I use sprite 5, I get
VOID but when I use sprite 8 I get all the child instance and all of the
properties. Both sprites have the same graphic and same behavior attached.
It's a card game so sprites 2 - 53 are exactly the same.

I'm not going to try to figure this one out.

                    Thanks for your help Sean.

                      Sean,

I restarted Director and sprite 5 now has the list of properties. It's
interesting that I happen to use sprite 5 as an example and my test sprite.

Chalk it up to memory or something unexplainable.

If you have sprite(5).scriptInstanceList in the Object Inspector, pretty
often, sprite(5) stops using it's script. It is not 100% of the time,
but I have found, as a general rule, that very odd things happen when
                        you try that. Be careful.

Sometimes you can get away with something like this:

                        global gSprite5

                        on startMovie
                        gSprite5=sprite(5).scriptInstanceList
                        end

and you can put gSprite5 into the Object Inspector. Sometimes it works.
                        Not always...

Thanks Mike. It's always nice to know when it's a bug and not one's
                          imagination.
