Mylenium Sep 26, 2010 7:33 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)Well, that is perfectly normal for such a low-budget, low-performance card and there is nothing you can do but get another one.

Noel Carboni Sep 26, 2010 7:51 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)Unfortunately, Mylenium is right: The 9400 GT is kind of outdated.
But don't let his implication that "low budget" is incompatible with Photoshop. There are plenty of modern cards around $100 or a bit more that are both a good bit more powerful than your 9400 and also support Photoshop very well. The key is that video cards - even the cheap ones - have been getting vastly more powerful over just the last few years, driven by the gaming market.
Look to the video cards on the web site below in the "High End" category with test scores of 1,000 or more and you'll see that you don't have to break the bank to get a new card that will make Photoshop sing nicely.

Some current examples: ATI Radeon HD 5670, nVidia GeForce GTS 450.

3. Re: Photoshop not detecting graphic/video card
micro5797 Sep 27, 2010 8:33 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)First, what do you mean by it (PS) isn't detecting your card?
Do you mean that it isn't showing up in the open gl settings via PS?
If that is the issue, then i have also had the same issue with my gtx 260 and PS.
The verly latest nvidia drivers worked great for me,(258.96) the previous 2 would not work in PS.
I wouls try a different set of drivers and go from there.
Even though now days a 9400 is considered an older card, it should still show in the enable open gl settings. Here is a list
of cards that are known and tested:

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/831/cpsid_83117.html
Nvidia GeForce
260 GTX, 896MB
6800, 256MB
7600, 256MB
7800 GTX, 256MB
7900 GS, 256MB
7900 GTX, 512MB
8600M 256MB
8800 GT, 512MB
8800 GTX, 768MB
9600 GT, 512MB
9800 GTX, 512MBAlthough your 9400 doesn't show up, since the 9x series is listed, it should work.
Keep in mind that even though your card is 1gb, it has lower band width (bit rate). It is
a remake of a mid range 8x series, so it isn't as powerful as it sounds like it would be.
Get teh latest drivers here:

4. Re: Photoshop not detecting graphic/video card
Zeno Bokor Sep 27, 2010 11:59 AM (in response to Mylenium)It may be low budget and low performance for games and 3D but it should have no problems running the OpenGL features from Photoshop.
If just updating the drivers doesn't work then uninstall your video card drivers, restart your system into Safe Mode, run DriverSweeper* to get rid of the leftovers and then reinstall the latest version as found on nvidia.com, not through Windows.

Do what Micro and Zeno suggest... it'll only cost you a couple of hours at the most...

sankalpgarud.co.cc Oct 3, 2010 5:30 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)hey guys
there is a twist in the story....
I just took out my tablet. Started drawing something. When I choosed my bristle brush...guess what I got a brush preview you get on the left top. When I pressed Ctrl/Cmd K (preferences) into performance I saw my graphic card deteced...Trust me I didnt do anything!
But however very sadly
when I restarted Photoshop it was no longer there....what could be the reason...the tablet isnt!

Noel Carboni Oct 3, 2010 7:02 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)I've personally seen cases where it will recognize a graphics card just once, right after a preferences reset, then not again.

micro5797 Oct 3, 2010 8:22 AM (in response to Noel Carboni)Um... what was the answer?
I see that this is marked answered, but i don't see where sankalpgarud.co.cc said that xx fixed the problem.
To add to this. Now that you stated that you have a tablet. I also have a tablet that i just purchased this year. The drivers that came on a disk with my tablet didn't work well with my windows 7/PS/tablet. I then download the latest drivers from the wacom site and everything worked perfectly. Give that a try if you have not done so already.

Hudechrome Oct 3, 2010 9:18 AM (in response to Zeno Bokor)Ditto Zeno. I have a 9500 and it works well.
The OS detects the card, as exhibited by the fact you can see what's on the monitor.

11. Re: Photoshop not detecting graphic/video card
micro5797 Oct 3, 2010 9:25 AM (in response to Hudechrome)Not really the case.
I have seen often times where sure you have a display on the monitor, but that does not indicate that open gl is working. You could be using a windows driver and and at least have the monitor on and working, but you would have a noticeable performance loss in games and PS etc.

12. Re: Photoshop not detecting graphic/video card
Hudechrome Oct 3, 2010 9:33 AM (in response to micro5797)I didn't say that. Open GL is not referred in my comment, only the OS. I understand that the app does not find the card suitable for full operation.

sankalpgarud.co.cc Oct 3, 2010 11:03 AM (in response to micro5797)its probably a mixed answer kind of so I dont know who exactly fiixed my problem...
Im assuming that it probably cannot be fixed sadly

14. Re: Photoshop not detecting graphic/video card
Chris Cox Oct 3, 2010 11:57 AM (in response to sankalpgarud.co.cc)What you're describing is a video card driver that returns inconsistent results, or gives random errors.
Sometimes it is detected and used, until it returns an error - then it stops being used.
Updating the driver may fix that.
