What CoDecs do the QTs use and to what output foirmat are you rendering? What is the size and framerate of the comp? Sounds like either a QT issue or an issue with constrained output formats liek H.264/ MPEG-2.
I'm actually exporting to Windows Media Video 9.
The video size is 1920x1080, 30fps, no Codecs as far as I know... (well with QT I'm using Sorenson 3 but nothing for WMV).
Bitrate: 2000 (I tried 7000 fist but thought that was the cause for the crashes so I dropped it down to 2000), Constant Bitrate
And unfortunately I have no clue concerning the MPEG-2 Codecs, I don't know how to change/adjust them or don't use them at all.
Thanks for the quick response by the way
Funny thing is: The crashes don't happen when rendering with QT, Sorenson 3, Quality: 75%, same size/framerate.
Only problem is, I need the clip in WMV and I don't have an appropriate converter to convert MOV to WMV (QT Pro won't do it, gives me some error message) and anyways it would be easier to just export as WMV from AE.

Microsoft offers a free encoder for WMV. If you're having no trouble creating other kinds of files with After Effects, then do that and use Microsoft's encoder:
Thank you, I wasn't aware that there was a newer encoder than the standart Windows Media Encoder.
But I would still like to have my former issue resolved, I just feel uncomfortable knowing that AE could crash anytime...
This may be an unresolvable compatibility issue. It's possible that a Windows Update replaced a Windows Media component involved in encoding the WMV and naturally, AE 7 being a bit old and no longer being maintained, there is no fix in sight. Still, you may wish to check your settings again, in particular the audio part. There may be something odd going on...
Ok, I thought so... AE being just out of date... (cause I tried the same rendering with a CS4 one and it worked just fine)
Well thanks a lot though, I'll try to get my hands (or rather those of my company) on one of the CS5 ones
Thanks and greetings
