1. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
Stan Jones Sep 28, 2010 6:46 AM (in response to tplowe56)The media missing suggests you are not linked. Is this a dynamic link? Is your relink or link media greyed out for it?
If not dynamic linked, it can't revert if it can't find it. Try relink.
What version of EN and PR?

2. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
tplowe56 Sep 28, 2010 9:23 AM (in response to tplowe56)Sorry...all CS5, PC W7 64bt. Dynamic link. I could not relink because En assumes the projects are already linked. I figured out a work around, though. I used the "Locate Asset" command to take the sequence offline. Then use the "Locate Asset" again to bring the sequence online. After that sequence the clip on the timeline updated in En.
In En I have never seen a "Relink" option, where is in this available?

Webshark2000 Sep 28, 2010 9:24 AM (in response to Stan Jones)I had the same issue on a project I was working on. I didn't realize it but the media wasn't linked even though it still showed up in the monitor preview. Just right-click on the clip and go to "Locate Asset" or "Replace Asset" if locate asset isn't available. Then navigate to your Premiere Pro Project file and select it.
That should fix the problem.

tplowe56 Sep 28, 2010 9:35 AM (in response to John T Smith)Looks like we all posted at the same time. I was trying to use replace asset but this was grayed out also. Replace asset isn't available for me when I highlight a Sequence, or Timeline. It is available when I highlight an image.

Stan Jones Sep 28, 2010 1:26 PM (in response to tplowe56)Sorry; I meant locate asset. And you're saying that worked, right? I don't know if you needed to offline, but it looks like it didn't hurt.

Stan Jones Sep 28, 2010 1:32 PM (in response to Webshark2000)Webshark, I don't find that I can "replace asset" on a dynamic linked asset; are you able to? Thanks.

9. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
tplowe56 Sep 28, 2010 2:09 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Yes, I took the sequence offline and back online and the last clip shows up. Not sure if this is always duplicateble, but it worked for me. There does seem to be a problem, occasionally with dynamic link not updating changes in PPro, and people looking for a force "revert to original" & this seemed to do it for me.
Now that I got this figured out I've got a Pop-up where navigation is completely dead. Another post, I guess. BD authoring is turning out to be a can of worms.

Haven't done any BD projects yet, but plan to do some tests soon. Learning a bit here and there.

Sorry, I was thinking of exported assets. No, I can't do "replace" on Dynamic Links, but I am able get "Locate Asset" to work. That's what I used when I had this problem.

12. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
Stan Jones Sep 29, 2010 6:24 AM (in response to Webshark2000)thanks for the clarification on replace asset.
In CS3, I had problems with fixing trouble without starting a new project. In my brief work in CS4, and now in CS5, I am finding Encore more robust in being able to withstand changes. I don't know that anything has changed with EN; it may be my new PC and having so few programs on it. Encore has a reputation for being finicky, but I'm giving it a chance to do its thing. Dynamic link, locate asset, etc are working fine so far.

13. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
Wes Cox Oct 3, 2010 12:42 PM (in response to tplowe56)TPLOWE, your problem relates to my question. Did you edit timeline in ENCORE or in Premiere?
Which timeline, EN or PRO is the best for making edits once the ENCORE project is started?
Do you know how the edited ENCORE video timeline is saved and can it be migrated back to PRO from ENCORE is needed?

14. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
tplowe56 Oct 3, 2010 5:35 PM (in response to Wes Cox)I only edit in Premiere. I just use Encore for authoring which is what it is designed for. You can adjust a Chapter point, but anything more than that I would do in Premiere. If they are dynamically linked, edits in either program should be reflected in the other, but sometimes the link appears to fail.

15. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
Stan Jones Oct 3, 2010 6:38 PM (in response to tplowe56)I have never tried it, but I have assumed that NO changes in Encore migrate to Premiere. Adding a chapter marker in EN does not result in one showing up in PR, does it? Trimming a timeline in EN does not result in shortening the timeline in PR.
Because EN is just for authoring, and you may be exporting the same PR timeline for multiple purposes, you would not want it to be updated. Also, EN has a history of being quirker with edits in EN. so far, it has been pretty good to me in CS5.
Now the dynamic link between PR and AE projects is a different matter; have not done too many in CS5, but there appears to be a lively interaction both ways there!

Wes Cox Oct 4, 2010 9:24 PM (in response to tplowe56)Thanks for the notes. I did not start ENCORE with Dynamic Linking and I am not experienced with linking. I will start a new posting as I am treading on your posting string.

17. Re: Revert to Original - grayed out - can't update timeline
bdpf Nov 6, 2010 12:33 PM (in response to tplowe56)I have a bit of a problem. I did what was suggested and used "locate asset" to put the sequence offline. The problem that I have now is that I am using again "locate asset", select prproj file but my sequence doesn't come backup online. Any ideas?
