1. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Bill Hunt Sep 28, 2010 9:05 AM (in response to BobBrews)Welcome to the forum.
What is the format of these images?
What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of these images?
Are these being Imported as a Numbered Sequence? If so, is that what you want?
Are these images on a local internal HDD?
Assume that you are on Win7-64. Is that correct?
Good luck,
Hunt

What is the format of these images?
Format is jpeg
What are the pixel x pixel dimensions of these images?
Still Images 2448 x 3264
Are these being Imported as a Numbered Sequence? If so, is that what you want?
I am importing the folder with the pictures in them.
Are these images on a local internal HDD?
local HDD
Assume that you are on Win7-64. Is that correct?
Yes win7 64 12gigs memory 4.5 terabit of HDD
New power machine for video editing ( NVIDIA 1gig)
Very random problem. Some pictures have the wrong thumbnail but show the right picture on the timeline 90% show the wrong thumbnail and the picture is wrong also. The file name imports in order. Everything correct except the picture? This is a importing problem seems like a glitch not a problem with the files.

What is your Sequence Preset? While PrPro can Scale your images down to match, you might want to look at this ARTICLE.
What happens if you Import the images, instead of the entire folder, i.e. open that folder, and Select the files themselves?
Good luck,

4. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
BobBrews Sep 28, 2010 10:43 AM (in response to BobBrews)I made an action in Photoshop reducing the pictures to 720x480. I then did a batch to reduce all the pictures and save a copy to a new folder. I then imported that folder into Premier Pro and they came in OK!. So the bottom line is reduce your pictures first to a reasonable size and then import. I never had to do that in CS3. I still have CS3 going on my old machine until I get my new one working. I imported the old (big file folder) OK. It's a bug in CS5! You should not have to reduce them first.

5. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Bill Hunt Sep 28, 2010 10:56 AM (in response to BobBrews)Well, CS5 can actually handle larger still images, than CS4, or earlier. The new Scaling algorithms are supposed to be improved over those in previous versions, but I have not verified that yet. Still, the Scaling algorithms in PS, even if not better than those now in PrPro CS5, offer more control, so I will still do all Scaling in PS, prior to Import.
As to why these larger files cause an issue in CS5 is a mystery, and perhaps is a Bug. Perhaps one of our Adobe employees can comment on this?
Good luck, and glad that things are working for you,
Hunt

shooternz Sep 28, 2010 2:04 PM (in response to BobBrews)How are you importing?
There are a number of ways:
Drag a file or folder in from Explorer
Media Browser
Adobe Bridge
Are you importing the Folder or the contents of the Folder?

10. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
BobBrews Sep 29, 2010 5:01 AM (in response to shooternz)I just right clicked and chose import. I then choose to "Import Folder".
Premier did its thing and the filenames were in order but most of the
thumbnails were the same picture? It was random as to which picture it
choose. When I sent all the pictures to the timeline I saw whatever the
thumbnail showed in most cases. Once in a while it showed the right picture
with the wrong thumbnail?

Stan Jones Sep 29, 2010 6:12 AM (in response to BobBrews)Try deleting the thumnails file from that directory before importing. I can't imagine that will make a difference, but the problem makes no sense to me either!

12. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Bill Hunt Sep 29, 2010 8:23 AM (in response to Stan Jones)Hm-m, might be on to something there. If the Windows Thumbs.db is not correct, and exists in the folder (will be created whenever one does a Thumbnail View in Windows Explorer), I can imagine that things could go south.
Otherwise, I am stumped.

or try removing that one image from the folder and importing the rest.... or splitting the directory into a 1/3s...

TylerJohnston Oct 28, 2010 5:43 PM (in response to BobBrews)Same problem, drag and drop, import all give me the same thing duplicate photos. Some, not all, thumbnails are correct but the photos are all the same, so I started a new project and added one photo, the thumbnail is correct but the photo is a picture in another folder! Not event in the project! Basically this sucks because I use a lot of photos. Just started happening after the last update. Now I have to do all my photos in After Effects...

22. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
murishani Nov 9, 2010 8:02 PM (in response to TylerJohnston)I am experiencing the same issue. I have tried importing them singly, shift-clicking the lot of them, importing folders, moving files to a different folder, importing from there, navigating to the location with the media browser, etc. I have cleaned the cache for the media files manually and through the UI (clear cache button), turned on the creation of the thumbs.db file so I can delete it, turning it back off, etc. This is driving me crazy. I created a new project for me to just put the pictures in, created a new sequence in the current project. I tried to let PPro auto-fillto a video for me, etc.
when I click on the properties for the photos, they ave the correct info. I look at the photos in windows and they are the correct photos. I have 5 of the same thumbnail (out of 34 images) and each of those 5 is a different photo (all the photos are the same, though different from the thumbnail).
any ideas at all?

23. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
TylerJohnston Nov 10, 2010 11:48 AM (in response to murishani)I had to run them through Photoshop and reduce the size, I created a batch action to reduce the pics by 50% seems that some of the larger photos mixed with the smaller was giving PPro a fit...I would say this is a bug in the program. After I reduced everything worked as normal.

24. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
BobBrews Nov 10, 2010 12:22 PM (in response to BobBrews)Seems like a work around that will do in a pinch. This is definitely a bug and should be fixed quite easily by Adobe. The "work around" is welcome but Adobe needs to do better! Thank you.

25. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
murishani Nov 10, 2010 12:43 PM (in response to TylerJohnston)Tyler, all the photos are the same size. I exported them in a batch from Lightroom, all at 300 dpi, 1200x800. I have also tried not exporting them, but using the original images. I wish the size discrepancy were the issue. Thanks for the reply, though.

27. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
TylerJohnston Nov 10, 2010 2:32 PM (in response to murishani)Export them again at 72 dpi, keep the size the same if you can, 300dpi is a bit high for video, re-export your pics 1200x800 at 72dpi see if that fixes it.
FYI 72dpi is screen resolution so anything higher is not needed.
-
28. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Harm Millaard Nov 10, 2010 2:37 PM (in response to TylerJohnston)FYI, DPI is absolutely irrelevant, immaterial and nonsense for non-printed material. Mentioning DPI only confuses things.
Do you think that a 72 DPI frame will keep it's sharpness when displayed on a 200" screen in comparison to a 7" screen? The only thing that matters is the resolution in pixels. Please refrain from creating confusion.

29. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
TylerJohnston Nov 10, 2010 3:20 PM (in response to Harm Millaard)Whoa, easy there captain correction...
Yes you are correct but since this guy mentioned lightroom I suspect he is more the photographer than video editor...yes DPI in video does not matter since it is all 72dpi, and yes 72dpi at 200" would look as good as at 7'...if the video is 1920x1200.
Anyway to clarify again PPro seems to have a problem with importing high DPI pics from DLSR cameras, lightroom ect. so export them the frame size of your PPro project at 72 dpi to avoid the bug in PPro.

30. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Todd_Kopriva Nov 10, 2010 8:08 PM (in response to TylerJohnston)> since it is all 72dpi
I have no idea what this even means.
Harm's point is valid. DPI has absolutely nothing to do with video.
In video, all that you care about is how many pixels wide and tall something is. Those pixels may be packed into an area such that 300 pixels span an inch (like an iPhone) or such that one pixel is an inch (like a video billboard in Times Square). When you work with these assets in your post-production software, the concept of an inch appears nowhere.

31. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
TylerJohnston Nov 11, 2010 6:03 PM (in response to Todd_Kopriva)What I mean, a bug work around, basic issue, photos at 300 dpi when imported into PPro (on my install of CS5) get all screwed up, save photos as 72 dpi and import and they work just fine, of couse dpi means nothing in the video BUT to get around this screwy picture problem I found that PHOTOS with high dpi cause issues in PPRo, there is obvioulsy a problem with the software, lets focues on that.
Many thanks.

I'd just like to understand the workaround. When you went from 300 to 72 dpi, did you also change the pixel size?
I don't recall the problem, but there was an issue (in CS3? CS4?) with importing some format (tiffs?) that carrried additional information (I don't think it was alpha channel, but I don't recall - maybe it was bit depth). There is something odd here as well.

33. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Jeff Bellune Nov 11, 2010 6:21 PM (in response to TylerJohnston)Likely the 300 dpi image has more pixels per side than the 72 dpi image. Which means you're saving from PS, for example, a 1200x900 pixel image as opposed to a 288x216 pixel image. This situation would result, for example again, from a PS export of an image that had constant dimensions of 4"x3".
Although each image left PS as 4x3, the images are quite different when brought into Pr's world. The 288x216 image would perform far better in Pr than the 1200x900 image if many such images were added to a sequence.

35. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
murishani Nov 13, 2010 2:29 PM (in response to JaysonM-Y)OK everyone, good news. I am not losing my mind
I resized them to 72 dpi at 640x480 (4:3 normal video as specified by the new project. They still do not import correctly under any of the conditions I listed above. This time, I also dragged them from Adobe Bridge to the bin I was working out of. FYI, 300 dpi at 720x480 is EXACTLY the same file size as 72 dpi 720x480. I also have been able to import onsie-twosie photos at full resolution and they auto-fit in the video frame.
I believe many of you were able to fix this problem with the re-sizing work-around, it did not work for me. I have a hard time believing resolution matters when the pixel dimensions are the same. this looks to me like a configuration issue or something wrong with the 64 bit only version for cs5. CS4 works fine on my virtual machine I created to test (this is how I resolved the issue and got my project done).

36. Re: I am importing a folder of pictures and they import the same picture?
Bill Hunt Nov 13, 2010 2:58 PM (in response to murishani)With video, the DPI, or PPI, is meaningless. It is only the pixel x pixel dimensions that matter.
Good luck,
Hunt
