    Dreamweaver- importing site problems.

    kaj_79
I am new to web design/updating etc.
I have a site that I'm attempting to update. I go to "magage site" and select the apropriate .ste file, enter my username and password, and select "done." My file window shows all of the .html pages and image links etc., but I'm not able to open anything. I have tried manipulating all of the firewall and other options on the manage site window with no luck. I often get the error message "DW cannot create a folder." and also "login/password is incorrect" which is odd, since I press the "test" button and it says that it is connected to the server. Sometimes I also get an "application unexpectedly quit" message and DW closes.

      Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

When you look at the name of this site in the list of defined sites in the
Files panel, do you see a folder icon to its left, or a little computer
          icon?

Hmm...I see two cute little computers strung together with a little yellow cord next to the ftp://davidheil.com (drop down menu at the top next to "manage sites,"

and a blue ball with a brick attached underneath next to what I believe is the root folder ftp://davidheil.com.

-Thanks for the quick response by the way,

OK - this is wrong. This means that you have defined the site as an FTP &
RDS Server site. Unless you a) really know what you are doing, and b) are
operating in an environment where you must be editing the files live on the
server, this is a bad idea.

Please create a new site in DW, define it as "SITE", not "FTP & RDS Server",
point to the requisite local folders, enter your remote connection info, and
              try your file editing again.
