Did you perhaps insert a variable in the Text? This is a known issue, that alignment is going awry then, not only in shapes but also in Text Captions. If you use a Transparent Text Caption you can indeed rearrange.
Nope, no variables here. I think I'll have to move to transparent captions for the time being. Thanks, Lilybiri.
Do you think Adobe might patch Cp4 for this and other known issues? Or must we upgrade to Cp5 to reap any new benefits?
Well, I'll put it this way. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for a Captivate 4 patch.
It's a lot more likely to see a Captivate 5 patch emerge.

Thanks, as always, Rick. I think I'll just have to find some way to fudge it into the right position; I'm sure I'll come up with something. Going to Cp5, unfortunately, is not an option. I like the Cp3/Cp4 interface better, anyway.
Oh, sorry, I was talking about CP5-issue.
In CP4 I always used a transparent text caption on top of a shape, did not like the functionality of the Text in shape there for different reasons (alignment being one of them), especially that it will not nicely flow in a shape (oval, polygon).
