    chinese and english on same webpage

      I'm working on a website that has several traditional Chinese herbal formulas on it.  The content of the site is in English, however we would like the Chinese names of the formulas to appear beneath the English version.  I copied and pasted the characters out of a document in MS Word and, while they appear as boxes in design view in DW, they appear fine in Firefox and Safari.  But they also appear as boxes in IE (8).  I have charset=utf-8 and the font-family in the css is only set to "serif"  (I tried switching to sans-serif and it still doesn't work so I assumed that was irrelevant).  How can I make them appear correctly in IE?
