1. Re: Only certain sequences can use External DV device to play back/preview?
JaysonM-Y Sep 29, 2010 10:54 PM (in response to Stephen Pickering122)Well....your problem begins with trying to view HD material from a mini dv firewire device. Normally(I did this the other day) you'd need a HDV deck(like the sony one I have beside me ) and then premier(I was using FCP) should pic it up. My guess is that your camera doesn't support HDV. Also to view on an external monitor in HD (fmi) you gotta get either HDMI out or one o' those capture cards that does video out as well.

2. Re: Only certain sequences can use External DV device to play back/preview?
Stephen Pickering122 Sep 30, 2010 2:41 AM (in response to JaysonM-Y)Thanks for the reply. I am confused as to why I can view SOME HD sequences but not all via the firewire connection. I am not concerned with seeing HD quality through the minidv camera but it goes to a tv that is usefull to see full screen for coloring and effect previewing. It's nice to see the footage on both LCD and a tube television.
It just seems odd that one sequence can work while the other cannot but I assume it is directly related to 24p vs. 30p vs 60p etc. I haven't seen this in the help file so that's why I asking here. I just want to be sure it's a standard thing and that nothing is wrong on my end... and maybe an explanation so I understand it a bit better...
Thanks!

Stan Jones Sep 30, 2010 5:41 AM (in response to Stephen Pickering122)Total curiosity on my part; haven't done it.
What happens if you nest your sequence in a 30i or 30p sequence?
Are there any options in the playback device settings?
It is odd that some hd plays out.

Stephen Pickering122 Oct 9, 2010 7:14 PM (in response to Stan Jones)Hi there,
Nesting inside a mismatched sequence does seem to work fine. It looks like it's just the specific sequence settings that are causing this. I'll look more into it and post if I can figure out anything. Running to catch my breath with a few projects so I'll try some tests hopefully soon to figure this out. I just thought it might be an obvious thing everyone else knew about but I was clueless about...
Thanks,
-Stephen
