    P7 Menu Magic 2

    puretreats

      After taking the advice of some really helpful people on here I have decided to dump my menu created using beahviours in Dreamweaver and have purchased Menu Magic 2.

      Everything seems great so far but I have got totally stuck on changing the colours of the menu to match our webiste. (I have no idea about css but have spent hours trying to get my head around it a bit!)

      I've managed to change a couple of bits on the menu to our green colour but cannot change the rest.

      EDITED TO ADD: I've just tried it on my ipod and another computer and it only has a thin pink or blue outline, but on my pc it shows a large pink background and blue on the sub menu and the text is really far apart. I'm so confused!?!

      Here is my practice menu page so far http://www.pure-treats.com/Menutest.htm

      I want to be able to have all of the menu in green and to close the gap up between the writing in the sub menus.

      (also can't work out how to access a forum for advice on Project 7's site....must be having a really thick day!)

      Thanks in advance

      Rachel

          Hello,

          You've done the right thing buying P7 stuff.  It's by far the best on the planet.  In terms of the forum, you won't be able to use it unless you have Outlook Express installed!  I haven't so I have to ask questions here too.

          I'll look at your specific problem now and get back to you.

              Thats brilliant thank you!

              Yes thats what I see and its wrong. I would like the entire menu to be in the green colour and not so spaced out?

              I'm sure its something simple and i'll kick myself for not realising it!!

              Thanks

                First, you can access th P7 forums with other programs other that OE.  If you have a vista or later, I believe Windows Mail comes with it, you can use it.

                  On your page, you will find a file

                  <link href="p7pmm/p7PMMv18.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="all">

                  Open it.

                  If you are trying to change background-colors, find all the rules that look like this:

                  background-color: #DF53A4;
                  background-color: #ebf3d1;
                  And change them to the color that you want.  You have to save and upload
                  the file again to make it work.

                  Tryh that and let us know how you make out.

                    Thank you Gary ....i'm almost there!!

                    The main menu bit has changed colour .... but the background on the sub menu is still blue. I can't see anymore background colours to change on the style sheet "p7pmm/p7PMMv18.css"

                    So close....arghhhh

                        Hi Rachel,

                        See my earlier post for support contact information.

                        This is how the menu you made should look by default, according to the style theme you chose:

                        http://www.projectseven.com/testing/customers/pure-treats/test.htm

                        You chose a style theme that utilizes CSS3 round corners and shadows (for modern browsers). The root menu items are styled with

                        background colors. The sub-menus are styled with a simple background image.

                        Your page has some issues that need to be tended to, namely it has a quirks mode DOCTYPE. If you have a relatively modern version of

                        Dreamweaver, you can fix that by choosing File > Convert and then select one of the transitional document types.

                            Thank you for your response Al, i have to say i'm really impressed with the product and service so far.

                            I don't really understand DOCTYPE - but am back in work in the morning and will try to change it like you suggested on dreamweaver.

                            I'm using Dreamweaver MX so is it possible to fix that by choosing File > Convert in that version?

                            It would be really good if I could get the new menu up and running for the weekend.

                            Thanks

                              Dreamweaver MX is, I'm afraid, too old to have that feature. You can change the DOCTYPE manually. Replace yours with this:

                              <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"

                              "http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

                              If you are under the gun, send me another email and we can arrange a phone call so that I can walk you through any remaining issues.

                                Al, I really cannot thank you enough ....

                                changing the  DOCTYPE has worked and the menu now looks perfect! Just need to fill out all our links and add it to the main site.

                                At last we have a nice looking but more importantly user friendly menu.

                                  If you won't be upgrading from MX anytime soon, I'd recommend taking that doctype code and making it a snippet so you can easily reuse it in your sites
