    Looking for opinions

    Level 7
      Hi All,
I am looking for any opinions on the WebAssist Web Developer suite. Any
comparisons to the interAkt MX_Kollection or the Adobe DDT would be great.

      Thanks.

I really like WA stuff because it is easy to understand and easy to modify.
I really cannot see my way through the very dense code that is produced by
the InterAKT stuff. As long as the extensions do *exactly* what you want,
this is of no consequence, but how often does that situation obtain? Never,
          for me....

I have spent more on WA extensions then I have on Dreamweaver, I have found that WA extensions are buggy as hell and the documentation is a joke, The WA extension capabilities are groosly over stated. Interakt had great support where as WA's is a joke unless you pay them.

            Thats my two cents worth

Funny - I know lots of people who use them, including myself (I use them all
the time), and have never heard such comments from them. Nor have I found
'buggy as hell' to be the case. But perhaps I'm not using them the same way
you are. The tipping factor for me is the ease of modification. If you can
see your way to modify IA's stuff, then more power to you....

Don't know about buggy: I can never figure out the WA extensions
enough to make use of them.

I agree wholeheartedly on the documentation. WA's docs aren't docs,
they're marketing demos. (I've had several conversations with Joe
Lowery about that.) InterAKT had a great collection of PDF tutorials
that showed not only how to use the extensions but how to use them
WITH EACH OTHER - for me, the biggest missing piece in the WA docs.

My take on the InterAKT stuff: I never had to modify the include files
to get done what I needed. The code that the extensions write
directly into the page was easy enough to adapt to the varying site
                requirements.

I've heard more than a few comments along those lines, Murray,
                  unfortunately.

Buggy? I don't think so. Certainly not in my experience. But, as you
                    know, one person's bug is another's <shrug>.

I upgraded the validation extension last year only to find many of the
server validations didnt work along with a host of other issues. I have
dropped them a line a few times requiring info as to when they might have
another release, but web assist dont seem to inform their customers of such
things until the day of release.
