I believe that component in fds.swc, the library for Flex Data Services. Have you got this installed, and is the file on your project build path?
I beleieve this is my issue, I did a whole system search for fds.swc and no luck, i have flex 2.01.5772 build the latest sdk installed and everything, why would i not have this file? odd... I don't even know where to get this file
If you bring up DataService in the help, you'll see that it says "Adobe Flex Data Services 2 Only", which is a separate product (although there is a free Express version).
You can use either Flex Data Services 2 (download here):
Or the more recent LiveCycle Data Services ES 2.5:
It comes with an option to install an integrated server, and don't forget that if you use the DataService you will need to define a matching destination called "mydatabasename" at the end which contains the connection settings for the DB and other settings.
You'll probably find some topics describing how to do this in the subforum for Flex Data Services, or you can look at the samples which come bundled with download to see working examples of applications using DataService.
I have installed the livecycle data services about 40 times choosing every option, still nothing.
I have setup my database xml files and all that. it will not let me use mx:DataServices or var ds:DataService and I even did the import command on them both, and nothing
it doesn't give an error on the import line.. but most likely it doesn't care what i put there.
Actually, i reinstalled lcds with the integrated server, searched all the directories and found the fds.swc file buried in there, pointed to it in my library paths, BAM works, thank you.
I think if you don't choose the integrated option, then fds.swc is inside the flex.war file, under WEB-INF/flex/libs. I think when you deploy fds to an any of the supported app servers this archive should be been expanded.
If you do ever want to create self contained wars for your application which have all the libraries and bits and pieces included for you and bundled into the app, then I highly recommend using the FDS Project Facet plug-in with the plug-in version of eclipse. You can get it here, it's worth checking out.
I believe Flex Builder 3 supersedes the need for this plugin though, as it has built in support for FDS/LCDS project creation.
