# Multiplying without a set number

I have an order form I am working on and I would like to multiply the number of cases by the case amount. I have 35 items I need to do this with and the price per case is different for each one, how do I do this?

I also want to add up all the sub totals for a grand total. This part I have working currently, but with adding in the multiplacation change how it needs to be formatted?

Is this value located in another field, or is it just a different number for

each column?

If it's another field, you can put this in the Simple Notation script of the

Calculate tab:

field_1 * field_2

If it's a value (let's say 35), put this:

field_1 * 35

Be aware that the field names are case sensitive and they can't contain

spaces or other special characters, like dots.

The case price isn't listed in any field or anywhere on the form. The price for each product is listed and how many are in a case, but they are not fields. Do I need to make them into fields?

Here's an image of how I have the form laid out if that helps any.

You can, but like I wrote, you can also hard-code the price into the

formula.

• ###### 4. Re: Multiplying without a set number

I'd like to thank you for your help since I neglected to in my previous reply, so thank you!

I put in the code like you suggested, but it looks like I am having a formatting issue. I am getting the following message.

missing ; before statement

1: at line 2

I've tried placing the ; before, after, and creating a second line nothing is working. I am sure it's something simple I am missing too. Any suggestions?

Which code did you place, exactly?

Also, did you make sure to put it in the Simple Notation field (the second

field), not the Custom Calculation field (the third field)?

• ###### 6. Re: Multiplying without a set number

I was placing the code in the wrong field.

I moved the code into the simplified box and tested it and it is not calculating. Below is exactly what I have, I double checked the field name and it is correct.

• ###### 7. Re: Multiplying without a set number

You need to use an asterisk (*) for multiplication.

• ###### 8. Re: Multiplying without a set number

Sorry, I do have an asterisk not a bullet.

• ###### 9. Re: Multiplying without a set number

Maybe you should post your file on acrobat.com so we could have a look.

• ###### 10. Re: Multiplying without a set number

I'm hoping this link works, it's my first time using acrobat.com.

• ###### 11. Re: Multiplying without a set number

For Simple Notation don't use characters like '-' in the field names.

• ###### 12. Re: Multiplying without a set number

I don't see any simplified field notation calculations in that file. What calculated fields you do have set up contain messed up JavaScript.

• ###### 13. Re: Multiplying without a set number

I only had simplified calculation set up on the first two products. I didn't

want to do all of them until I had something working on the first two.

Thank you Bernd! The dashes were the problem.

and Thank you Try67 for helping me most of the way!
