I had the same question. Best I could glean is that it's one of the 3D methodologies (alternating between left-eye image and right-eye image).
I can see why someone might want to create 3D content. Not sure why anyone would want to edit in a 3D NLE, though. That's just seems headache inducing.
PageFlip is the format that Nvidia uses with it's 3D Vision setup (active stereo glasses).
As far as I know, it's the best consumer grade active 3D vision for a computer LCD monitor.
I agree that it's not idea to edit in 3D but I do want to be able to see the 3D results before having to render.

My problem is that CS5 is not doing what it does for Dave!
When I set my Sequence Settings to allow me to view in 3D in my playback window, CS5 acts as though I am not on a 3D monitor.
