I'm a novice and just bought and installed Premiere Elements 9. However, every time I used "Get Media" to import a WMV files or MP3 files, all my thumbnails in the "Media" section disappeared and my Premiere Elements 9 hung! However, when I restart my Premiere, the new file is already imported. I don't have any problem to edit and render my project. When I used the trial version, this problem didn't turn up. FYI, I uninstalled the trial version and installed the CD version. For my current workaround is to import files from Adobe Organizer and then work in the "Edit" section in Elements. Below is my PC info:
CPU: Intel Dual-Core 2.5 GHz
Physical Memory : 4096 MB (2 x 2048 DDR2-SDRAM )
Operating System: Windows 7 32bit
Sound card / driver version: None

Your help is very much appreciated.
WMV files can use a variety of compression levels, and some digest more easily in Premiere Elements than others.
As a rule, though, I don't recommend using WMVs as source files. If you convert them to DV-AVIs, per the FAQs to the right of this forum, your problems will likely go away.
I also convert all WMV's to DV-AVI Type II and all MP3's to PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit. That eliminates a ton of issues.
You might want to check weather only one wmv file is causing the issue or all of them . Also importing only mp3 file causes the issue or not ? That way you might be able to narrow down weather the issue is format specific or not.
