    AC3 Channel Viewer?

    conleec Community Member

      Hello everybody,

So I'm making my first foray into 5.1  encoding. It's a personal project, and I received the 6 discreet stems  from my sound vendor. I purchased the AC3 encoder license for Adobe CS5  and I've now encoded the file. Does anybody know of a software analysis  tool which will show me my 6 encoded channels either as waveforms or in  some other fashion? I'd like to look at this thing and see if it 'looks'  right. I know at the vendor there was an audio vector scope thingy  which showed all six channels and you could see the lights flashing  toward the L,C,R,Lfe,LS and Rs vectors. Anything like that availabe in  software?

Mostly for curiosity sake, I guess. But curious I am.

      Thanks in advance.

      Chris

          Hi Chris,

I found your question hopefully too late and you already have solution.

I am not sure if I understand your problem correctly. I am using free software Audacity to check channels of AC3 files.

            Chris,

I just saw this post - been gone a bit lately - sorry.

In PrPro, one has several devices to help you, but mainly with Levels.

In Adobe Audition, one has a pretty full range of Scopes, and for your 6-channel mix, you'd want to be in Multi-track Mode.

            Hope that helps,

PS - also remember that you will be unable to monitor the 6-channel Audio in En. It will only Burn the DD AC3 in pass-through mode. All monitoring will need to be done in PrPro, or a program, like Audition.
