premiere CS5 import avi clips without sound. How can I import avi clips with sound without convert?

    Leonardo16

      Dear Adobe Forum,

I have the following problem, please help:

I would like to import avi clips in adobe premiere. All clips have the same avi codec. But unfortunately my adobe premiere does not import the sound of a few

avi clips. It is wired because about 10 out 70 avi clips which have all the same avi codec does not work with sound in premiere CS5. In the timline premiere import the video and audio line but there are no audio waves in the about 10 avi clips. additonally premiere plays the 10 avi clips in the source monitor without sound. Furthermore when I open the 10 avi files without adobe premiere they have sound, but with premiere there are no sound in the 10 avi clips.

What can I do, so that I can import all avi files with sound. I do not want to convert each of the avi files because then they have not a good quality and it is to complicated and it takes to much time to convert all files in this video project and in the other video project in my future.

Consequently How can I import all avi files so that they have immediately sound? Do I have to change some premiere settings?

      Thank you in advance

      Leonardo

Do the problem clips have AC3 audio in them?  Pr doesn't like AC3 audio in AVI files.

Please post the video and audio codecs that are used in the AVI files.

Work through all of the steps (ideas) listed at http://ppro.wikia.com/wiki/Troubleshooting

If your problem isn't fixed after you follow all of the steps, report back with ALL OF THE DETAILS asked for in the FINALLY section, the questions at the end of the troubleshooting link... most especially the codec used... see Question 1

What I'm curious about is if these clips are all from the same source; in other words, are these 10 something different or the same as the other 70 that work fine?

If they're different, a program like VirtualDub could be used to repackage the files by passing through the video (so there is no recompression) and transcoding the audio to a different codec (like PCM audio).

If they're the same, however, I'd suspect something more like an interrupted audio conform when the clips were originally imported into Premiere. Check the folder where the AVIs are stored; are there CFA and PEK files there with similar names to your AVIs? If so, with Premiere closed, delete all those files and then reopen your project. Watch the yellow bar down in the lower right corner of the application, and wait for it to stop; that's the audio conforming indicator, whereby Premiere is rendering uncompressed versions of the audio contained in your clips. This supposedly results in better playback/editing performance, but if the process is interrupted, you might not have audio in some of your clips.

Use a program like MediaInfo or GSpot to find out what the codecs used in the clips are.

Consequently, as you can see, they have both nearly the same information

Both video clips have the following audio codec:

                AAC

In the folder where all raw video clips exist there are a few new files with the codec ending: .AVD ("the name of the file".AVD)

But the 2 video clips mentioned above does not have any files like .AVD oder something else like that. But the first one works and the second one doesnt work.

What is a trouble shooting? I do not understand the website where it is explained.

Can somebody explain it to me? How can I do it?

There are no cameras that record AVC into AVI files.  Premiere works best when you use standard media you shot yourself using a supported camera.  Other types of media will be hit or miss.  You got a few misses.

Your best bet will be to stick to using standard camera media with Premiere, and a consumer editor for other non-standard media from other sources.

Pardon, unfortunately I did not understand you. Can you please repeat your sentences again? That would be great.

I shot my video clips with a standard HD Cam. Then I upload all video clips from my HD Cam to my computer without converting them.

Consequently all video clips have standard codecs. How can I solve the problem? because I would be very very happy when the few video clips works with sound when I pull them in the timeline. I am working on a project and it is almost finished the whole film. But unfortunately that big problem came to me. My film project has to be finished on Monday. So I please you all to help me. Thank you in advance

by monday? boy you're in a jam.

why not just convert the audio instead to .wav and then sync em up in premier?

As I said. My whole film project is almost done. I just need to import the about 10 avi clips with sound and then I can export my video. Consequently I think with your help I can do it tomorrow so that my whole film is finished on Monday.

My best advice would be to go with a work around for now.

The thread can always continue for you to refer back to when there is a solution, but crunch time is no time to be waiting.

Also I sent you a PM

I have had this problem too - I have solved it.

I realised that after each capture Premiere has to conform the audio. If you interrupt this process there is no audio for that clip in Premiere (but there is audio if you play the clip in a different program eg Media Player). Never exit the program straight after capture. Look for the yellow bar at the bottom right of the screen.

To put this right, exit Premiere, delete the .xmp file for the problem clip, restart Premiere and re-import the clip into the project. Premiere will create a new .xmp file and in doing so it will also conform the audio. Hey presto, the clip has audio!

                              Hope that helps someone.
