How to Reduce PDF File Size after Cropping Several Pages?

I crop PDF files to maximize their reading area (using Adobe Acrobat 6.0) but no matter how much I crop the pages or even Delete Pages from the files, their size does not reduce at all. For Example's sake, I even reduced a 40MB file to just one page, but it's size remained fixed at 40 MB. Isn't that ridiculous?

If I crop some page, it is cropped only from view but physically it stays there, although the deleted pages are deleted permanently. Is there any way/option to physically remove the cropped areas and deleted pages so that the file size is reduced???
