Please post a screenshot of your Composition panel and Effect Controls panel with the Particle Playground selected.
When you see the particle count in the Info panel and the progress bar in the Composition panel, After Effects is busily calculating the particles for the current frame. This can take a long time if the current frame is not at the beginning of the layer.
Move the current-time indicator to the very beginning of the layer with the particle effect, and then try to preview. Does it work then?
Try a very small number of particles per second (like 5).
Thanks, Todd. No, I can't even see the one or two particles which begin to come out of the Cannon at the start of a comp. I've tried bringing the count down on the Cannon to one or two particles per second.
In the case of the screen shots, I deliberately started a few seconds in so you could see the Comp window trying to render and the info window counting particles. It never gets to a point where you can see any.
This is a computer in a lab. Two of the 15 stations have this problem. The rest are working fine, apart from being dreadfully slow creating particles.
I appreciate you taking the time to help. I and two of my colleagues are at loss.
I'm having the same problem with CS5 no particles showing no matter what I do....It looks like I have all the same settings you have and it's doing the same thing. I'm curious to see if you ever found a solution to the problem? Or if anyone else can provide any other suggestions?
I've seen this issue asked by a few people now but it doesn't apper that anyone has an answer yet....is this a bug?
No, I never got a good answer to this issue. We eventually just used
another computer. Good luck!
I was having the same issue today and think I may have figured out what's going on here. If you apply the CC Particle effects to a null object, the particles do not appear to be visible. If instead you apply the effect to a new solid layer, you should be able to see the particles.
