Flash CS3 Vista - traces slow down movie playback

I'm having an unusual issue with Flash CS3 on Vista.

If I have a movie with numerous trace actions (ie: I send a trace to the output panel as an onEnterFrame event), playback of the swf becomes progressively slower as the output panel fills up. Eventually playback crawls to a halt.

Clearing the output panel will bring the framerate back to normal, as will setting the output panel filter level to 'None' instead of 'Verbose'.

Running Flash in 'Windows XP SP2' compatibility mode (right click Flash executable, select compatibility) also fixes the problem.

Obviously all of these workarounds should be unnecessary, as there should be no performance issue to begin with. I have not found anyone with the same issue, although I have heard of others with similar slowdowns occurring when typing into the actions panel.

It is worth noting that system performance is not affected. For example the RAM and CPU are not put under any strain as swf playback slows down.

      Any insights?
