If your link is on an FTP server, you will have to open your project in Flash Builder and change the url there, then republish the project. If can be hosted on an HTTP server, they you should not need to open the project in Flash Builder.
Are you trying to show the PDF within the Flash Catalyst project, or providing a method to download it?
If you are trying to show the PDF within FC, then that is not currently possible. But you can provide a link to the pdf on a server and display it in a new window.
Hope this helps,
i am trying to link it to download. could you possibly tell me how to do that in flash builder.
also i wanted to ask why i cant import my Illistrator file into Catalist, it says the file is to big and i have no idea how to solve this problem.
i appriciate all the help thank you so much again.
The best method is to first add an Go To URl interaction from the interactions panel. You can enter the url to the pdf. If you know the full url of the PDf you want to show, you can enter the complete url here and it should work. However, if the url is unknown or you want to use a relative path, then you will have to user Flash Builder.
You might want to also select the Open in New Window option.
Please note that once you open your Flash Catalyst 1.0 project in Flash Builder you will be unable to reopen it in Flash Catalyst. Once you have opened the project in Flash Builder, look for some ActionScript within the <fx:Script> tag that looks like this:
navigateToURL( new URLRequest( encodeURI("http://theURLtoThePDF")), "_blank");
and change the "http://theURLtoThePDF" to what you need it to be, then republish the swf from Flash Builder.
As for the Illustrator issue, there is a limit to the file size and complexity. You might want to try simplifying the layers and grouping with the file. I am more of a Photoshop user, so that is about as far as I can go to help on that issue.
There are a bunch of things you can do to bring the file size down in Illustrator so that it will import into Catalyst.
Please open a new thread on the Illustrator import issue. It's something that a lot of users run into and answering it separately would be helpful to more folks than answering it here where a lot of people will miss it.
