Can I use the escape key as a shortcut key?

    iwadon Level 1

      Hello,

I use the escape key as a shortcut key in Audition for Windows.
However, the escape key can't be used as a shortcut key with Audition for Mac.
Because the shortcut key setting window shuts when I try to set the escape key.
How can I use the escape key as a shortcut key?

      Thanks,

      Hiroyuki Iwatsuki

This might be a bug that the Window is taking the [ Esc ] key to close the modal dialog.  It would make sense that if the focus was on the Press shortcut field, that it would take the [ Esc ] key instead.

However, I don't know if this will open a can of worms or not because most of the time we do want to use the [ Esc ] key to dismiss dialogs and cancel certain things.

Which command would you like to map to the [ Esc ] key?  It might be possible to directly edit the Keyboard Shortcuts XML file to get this to work.

            Thank you for the response.

Which command would you like to map to the [ Esc ] key?

I want to map "Move CTI To Beginning" to [ Esc ] key.

It might be possible to directly edit the Keyboard Shortcuts XML file to get this to work.

I wish I get the method of mapping the command to any key.

            Thanks,

In the mean time, you can manually change this in the Keyboard Shortcuts XML.  Here's the steps to get this working.

              1. Launch Audition
              2. Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts
              3. Navigate to Transport > Move CTI to Beginning
              4. Select Move CTI to Beginning and press the [ Home ] key.
              5. Press the [ Assign ] button to commit the change.
              6. Press the [ Save As... ] button to Save your Custom Keyboard Shortcuts
              7. Name your Shortcuts Preset to something like My Custom Shortcuts
              8. Press [ OK ] to commit the Shortcut Set dialog.
              9. Press [ OK ] again to commit the Edit Keyboard Shortcuts dialog.
              10. Quit Audition
              11. Navigate to the Audition preferences folder (e.g.: /Users/<YOUR_USER_NAME>/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Audition/4.0)
              12. Open the Shortcuts folder.
              13. You'll see an XML file with the name you chose in Step 7.  Open it in an XML or Text Editor.
              14. Search for the following Text (it might be at the very end of the file)t:
                1. <keycmd>

                  <cmd>Transport.MoveCTIToBeginning</cmd>

                  <key>36</key>

                  </keycmd>

              15. Change that text to:
                1. <keycmd>

                  <cmd>Transport.MoveCTIToBeginning</cmd>

                  <key>6</key>

                  </keycmd>

              16. Save the modified XML file
              17. Relaunch Audition

Move CTI to Beginning command is now Mapped to the [ Esc ] key (which is key #6).

                Thank you for your advice.

I set [ Esc ] key to Move CTI to Beginning.

But it doesn't work even if I push [ Esc ] key.

It worked after I reassign [ Home ] key.

                What shall I do?

After modifying the XML file, if you first click in the editor panel, then press the shortcut, does that make a difference?

                    Hello,

                    Settings with XML are effected.

But it is different behavior with [ Home ] key and [ Esc ] key.

[ Home ] ... it is correct behavior.

[ Esc ] ... it can't move cursor to beginning.

                    Please see my movie.
