    Stroke/outline issue

    user7777 Community Member

I'm using flash to create shapes and it always adds unwanted  stroke/outline to it, even when I have no outline color selected for it. (white box with red slash)

How do I create new shapes without having the outline always reappear?  In adobe illustrator you can create shapes with just the "fill" with no stroke.  Any ideas?  Thanks

that's how you do it, click the pencil and select the white box with the red slash.

also, after you create your shape, if a stroke is added, you rollover the stroke (confirmed by your mouse pointer changing), double click the stroke and then click the backspace key (or right clicking and clicking cut).

Thanks. I click the pencil icon so there's no stroke. But then when I use the pen tool to create a shape, it still automatically brings back the stroke option. How do use the pen tool to create shapes without it automatically bringing back the stroke option.  I think it's a bug.  In adobe illustrator if you use the pen tool and have the stroke option off, it stays that way until you put back on.  I'll be making tons of shapes and having to go back and remove each unwanted stroke eats  up time : (

the pen tool in flash is a stroke tool.  turning off the stroke for the pen tool is like turning off the stroke for the pencil tool.  it doesn't make sense.

Sorry I'm not too good with words.  It might sound like a strange concept. Here's screenshot with shapes created in illustrator with the pen tool.

                A) Shapes are created with just a black stroke, no color fill.

                B) Shapes are created with color fill only, no stroke.

                C) Shapes are created with both color fill and stroke.

I'm trying to get flash to create shapes like method B) with out worrying about deleting strokes on many created shapes as I go along.  I also tried importing shapes from illustrator to Flash CS5 and it's unstable.

I know this is an old post - but I'm having this exact same problem - The pen tool is only doing a stroke and no fill and I want it to only do a fill and no stroke. I go into the stroke and select the thing with the line thru it which means NO STROKE and then I draw my shape and there is that damned stroke again!

I think it is a bug too - I'm using the trial version of CS5 and I've had buggy problems with the IK tool as well - SO Annoying! Can't anything just work right?!

At least I didn't buy it  - isn't the trial version supposed to make you want to buy it! It should work perfect.

Ok - so I've been messing with it - I discovered something at the bottom of the toolbar that says "lock fill" - never noticed that stupid icon - now it is working better.  It still makes the stroke and no fill though - I just have to delete it afterward and add the fill with the paint bucket - totally ineffecient - wtf!

I find that trying to draw in Flash after you are used to Illustrator is SUCH a pain.

                  Poo on Flash!

                  Thanks for listening.

taboose thanks for the tip.  I know what you mean that Flash CS5 being buggy, I used Flash MX and it was more stable. I had the full version of Flash CS5 for months and starting to get hang of the program.  I can honestly say I'm afraid to take on client projects or commissions because the program is so unreliable and it shouldn't be for it's $600 price tag.

Yes - it is like we are testing a beta version - why should we have to pay for it?

Of course now that i've created stuff in the CS5 trial - I WILL have to buy it, if I ever want to see my files again!
