Are you setting the In & Out Points of the Timeline itself, or for Clips on the Timeline?
This is when setting them in the Preview Window (not the timeline) using the in & out buttons rather than by dragging the points. Again, the buttons work perfectly in my laptop, but not in my desktop compter.
By "Preview Monitor," I assume that you mean the Source Monitor, accessed when you Dbl-click on the Clip in the Project Panel, to Trim it. Is that correct? You are then using the I key (eye) and the O key (oh) to set the In & Out Points there, correct?
If so, I cannot imagine that your desktop has had those two keys re-mapped, as sometimes happens with the modifier key shortcuts, where some program that loads at bootup will remap certain keystroke combos for itself, and then when one launches PrE, those keystrokes are still assigned to another program, though it is not running.
Does the keyboard on your desktop rely on a driver to function properly? Almost all wireless keyboards, and most "custom" keyboards do, while most USB, and similar, plain-jane keyboards do not. If it does have a driver, I would check for a newer one. If none are available, I would then reinstall the driver that came with the keyboard - test.
Otherwise, I am at a loss to explain why the I & O keys do not set the In & Out Points in the Source Monitor, as they do on the laptop.
Good luck, and maybe others will have seen this behavior, and can help you.
I'm talking about the Set in & Set out buttons that you can click with your mouse on the preview screen after you open it with a double click on a clip in the project panel. I have not tried it using the keyboard shortcut keys. I will try that when I get home tonight to see if the key shortcut works.
The problem I'm having is using the mouse to click on the buttons on my desktop computer only.
OK, thanks for that info. As I use the I & O keys, I had not even thought of that - duh!
Well, that pretty much takes the keyboard remapping out of the mix.
Do you have different mouse configurations on the two computers, say a MS Intelipoint on one, and a Logitec w/ the Set-Point driver on the other?
Do any of the other icons fail on the desktop?
Since the Source Monitor will always have focus, when it's open, that is not an issue, and even if it were, clicking anywhere on that Panel should get focus to it.
A puzzle, for sure.
