I’ve had several customers calling today (24-11-2010) about their desktop freezing up. After some questioning I found out that they had installed an automatic Adobe Reader update.
It seems that it puts some new plugins in to Interner Explorer, and at some point it freezes the desktop… (startmenu still working) Closing down Internet Explorer doesn’t help, and iexplorer.exe still runs in the job monitor. Killing all instances of iexplorer.exe brings the desktop back to life.
Solution is to either deactivate Adobe plugins in Internet Explorer, or resetting Internet Explorer settings. Easy done by pressing “Win + R”, typing “inetcpl.cpl” enter. Goto the Advanced tab and click Reset.
