For the third frame you could have a mask that slides over the photograph from right to left, and have your black line as a movielcip that sits in a layer above the mask and is moved in time with it.

so I can with help of mask "make the picture" go smaller so it dissapears when the line is on the left.
A mask reveals what is beneath it, so in your case, the photograph would sit atop the drawing image and the mask will be atop the photograph (eventually, at first it is off to the side on a layer above it). As you slide the mask over the photograph, it is revealed. You then have the line as a movieclip on a layer above the mask and move that as you move the mask to give the effect that the line is doing the revealing.
So the layering of things would be, top to bottom...

thank you I'll try it out, I did get it to work when I tested it in flash but then when I clicked ctrl+enter it didnt play it right but I'm gonna make sure I do what you wrote.
