Should this take almost 2 hours to render?

    semajha Level 1

I'm rendering a 1080p AVCHD clip that's 1 min 16 secs. long.  Is it normal that it's taking nearly 2 hours to render?

      My system specs:

      i7 930 (stock clock)

      GTX 470

      12gb Ram (default stock clock)

4 1tb Spinpoint F3 (all configured to Harm's HD config suggestion)

      Clip Specs:

      1080p 24p AVCHD (Canon T2i Native)

      1 min. 16secs. - 1418 Rendering Frames

FX: Magic Bullet Looks Grading, Neat Video Noise Removal, 24% Sharpen, and Twixtor Pro Speed at 80%

You have some heavy duty fx running on your project.

Individually they all take considerable time.

Collectively ...maybe a lot of time.

What are you rendering? ie do you mean exporting / encoding or rendering the sequence?

Thanks for the quick response, I'm rendering the sequence.  I kind of knew that rendering this type of clip with heavy FX would take some time but I wasn't expecting it to be 2 hours long for a 1:16 min clip. Just trying to find out if this is the typical amount of time it takes to render, considering the type of file and pc specs that I have.

2 hrs does seem a long time.

You could work thru the sequence and work out what is taking the most time.

Twixtor and Neat would be it I guess.

              FWIW.

Even in high end systems like Flame.. I regularly sit thru renders of 10 to 30 minutes of rendering part scenes in a  TVC of 30 seconds total.

Its part of the deal ( workflow) !

*Correction* It ended up being only 1hr 31min. instead.  Premiere kind of overestimated and it finished much sooner. I'm guessing it's neat video and twixtor as well.  I'll try running some test tomorrow and report back with my results.

Definitely need to work on my workflow... I know I should at least start with cutting and arranging clips first but messing with grading and fx is too fun I always like to see what my clips look like.

I would appreciate it if you could do the following tests:

                  1. Timeline with MBL, Neat and Twixtor: Render time: 1:31 (already done)

                  2. Timeline with MBL and Neat: Render time: .....

                  3. Timeline with MBL and Twixtor: Render time: .....

                  4. Timeline with MBL: Render time: .....

                  5. Timeline with Neat: Render time: .....

                  6. Timeline with Twixtor: Render time: .....

                  7. Timeline with Neat and Twixtor: Render time: .....

The value of all these tests is that we all get a feel of how much of a burden each of these effects carry, even with hardware MPE.

To put your posssible results in perspective, can you also do the PPBM5 Benchmark so we know how to interpret your results.

                  Thanks for your cooperation.

I'll have the other two up later on today, Along with my benchmark results.
