No audio playback in PE9 trial version

    Stanof Yorks

I have installed PE9 trial download onto my new PC and captured a short video from my Canon MV650i mini-DV camcorder.  I could hear the soundtrack through the PC's speakers during capture, but there is no sound during playback.  However, when playing backthis video using Windows Live Movie Maker there is sound.

When I open a project in PE9 that I created in PE1 (by opening the .prel file) there is sound in the playback.  How can I get PE9 to capture & playback audio as well as video?  Are there any other known problems with PE9 that I should know about before buying it?

My first impression is - why didn't Adobe just make a version of PE1 (which has been perfectly fine for me for 6 years) compatible with 64-bit Windows 7?

      If it's relevant, my new system is: Intel i5-760 2.80Ghz; Asus P7P55D-E motherboard; 4GB DDR3 Dual-DDR3 1333Mhz (2 x 2GB) RAM; 1GB Nvidia GEForce GTX465 GDDR5 OCI Express graphics card; 2 x 1TB HDD (1 - SATA 6 Gb/s (for OS, programmes and all files), 1 - SATA 3 Gb/s (for back-up)).

Thanks in anticipation of your help.
