I was right in that this is a difference in the way php and flex handle arrays. I finally found something that works in the documents but I'm still not understanding exactly what the difference is. Flex won't get you directly make copies of an array? If someone could break this down for me Barney style or point me to a good explanation I would greatly appreciate it.
The code that works simply modifies
random[k]= sireLinkedP[i]; to this
You're correct in making a copy. In Flex, Arrays are references, so this assignment: random[k]= sireLinkedP[i] assigns random[k] to the actual array behind sireLinkedP[i] rather than a copy. Does that make sense?
Kinda, I have a feeling this is going to be one of those things I just have to accept and work with enough to get a feel for it.
