That is correct, capture is only through firewire which only for tape camera's, yours is flash.
All other stuff needs to be imported.

Thank you. I figured thats what I was gonna have to do, I was just trying to aviod putting the whole files on my hard drive.
Im gonna have to admit, IM new to HD and used to my sony dcrvx2100. What is the most logical way to "capture" a few seconds of 2-4 minute clips? can I use a card reader that will use the capture feature on CS5 or are all "cards" gonna be the same. These questions are based upon the canon xf300, not the vixia HF21.

Files on a hard drive or memory card must be copied to your computer with Win Explorer or the software that came with your camera
Once on your hard drive, you import (Ctrl-I) the files into PPro for editing
