I mostly have NEF files. If I want to open or place them, I have to go to my Nikon View software to see the image. My open file or place file only gives me an icon. I notice it does this with DNG files as well. It is somewhat difficult to be switching back and forth between software. I have the full CS5 suite and the version of Camera Raw is 6.3. Is there an update or preference box to check to be able to view the image as a thumbnail in my "open" or "place" box?
My PS3 opened them with a thumbnail so I know it can be done.... at least it could....
I am not sure I understand the question. You can use CS5 to process your NEF/DNG images directly. Just go to File -> Open... and select the image.
I am sorry... I am multitasking and probably not explaining myself well. When I have a photo open in PS5 and I want to place another in the same window, I go to file>place> and the menu box that opens has only icons for my NEF files. There are no thumbnails to pick from. When I use the "view" drop down list to change the file display from Large Icons, List, Details, etc, all I get are avatars for the NEF file, not a thumbnail of the photo itself. Does this make more sense? I just need to know where to go to update, change preference, or whatever so I can SEE the photo I wish to place as a thumbnail.
Also, I may be doing this all wrong but on a completely different but similar issue, I don't see to be able to "shift, drag" an image open in PS5 into another tab open in my workspace. Am I doing this wrong as well? Or is there a setting I need to change?
