    Updating Acrobat Reader ver 7

    species8350 Level 1

I have Acrobat ver 7 on my pc (Vista 32 bit). I keep getting messages regarding updating.

I see a number of Acrobat versions, eg X, 9.4, and 8.2, but they all seem so big.

I just want a good reader that does the job.

      Can anyone offer any advice?

Ps. I use IE ver 8

PPs. what does 'X' mean regarding the reader?

I have read of several applications, many of them free, that can read PDF files, but I have also read that at least some of the most popular ones install additional software that's nearly impossible to remove (and I understand that so does Reader as well if you are nor careful when installing). As I use Acrobat and therefore do not need a separate application for reading PDFs, I have no direct experience on this.

The newer versions of Reader are by no means gigantic applications unless you have severe hard disk space limitations, in which case I would stronlgy advise you to get a larger HD or clear as much as you can your existing one.

As far as I know, the "X" stands for 10.

          Hope this helps.

Reader 7 is old and no longer supported, and therefore vulnerable.

I use Reader 8.2 on my old Windows 2000 machine; it is supported for the time being, and not that awfully large.
