Are you talking about rectangular Selections?
Because I don’t see much advantage of first making a Selection as a target instead of just invoking Edit > Free Transform.
Anyway, if for some reason (like the way you arrive at the Selection) you definitely would profit from such a feature you could ask in the Photoshop Scripting Forum, maybe someone can help you create or find an existing Scripting solution.
I was thinking more of a custom Marquee selection, something non-uniform in shape. I work as a 3D artist and use UV mapping, kind of skinning a 3D model to a flat surface, to create textures. I was thinking that being able to take lets say a square scarf texture and use a fit to marquee selection and the "square" image distorts to the contour of the custom selection.
I don't know if that makes since but it would be awesome to see that feature included, or a plugin :]
Ah, not my field of experience admittedly.
Truly irregular shapes … have you ever checked out Illustrator’s Envelope Distort?
Just looked it up, thats pretty much what I was thinking, but in Photoshop:] Thank you for the posts.
Yes actually being able to transform and warp objects to existing shapes is an interesting suggestion and idea. Practically it would need some quite sophisticated AI, to morph between an "average" of two existing bounding shapes. And it would sometimes lead to unpredictable and unusable results. But its an interesting idea.
