Jeff Schewe Dec 26, 2010 5:02 PM (in response to *Rich*)Ya know, this is a User To User forum, right? Exactly what would you expect to result in posting here? That we could fix your issue? It seems the people to address your issue is on Lynda.com...

*Rich* Dec 26, 2010 7:32 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Well Jeff, maybe you didn't read my entire post -- my actual questions. So allow me to elaborate.
I'm wondering if I am the only person having this problem. Knowing this would help me decide how best to proceed. Also, it would be good to know if the other benefit options are still valid, which would then be an option for me and others.
My post may give others a heads-up in not getting into the same situation as I have. Maybe this is just a temporary glitch. Also, there have been occassional responses from Adobe employees on this forum that have been helpful to lots of folks many times -- just as you have been. Unfortunately, this isn't one of those times for you.
The offer is a benefit provided by Adobe to their customers, featured on an Adobe website -- not a Lynda.com offer made by them and featured on their website. I feel this is a technical issue that Adobe, not me, needs to work out with Lynda.com. But I agree with you, that particular matter is beyond the scoop of this forum.
I just want to learn Photoshop, which is Adobe's generous intention in offering complementary benefits to their customers. It's a great idea.

Tai Lao Dec 26, 2010 8:36 PM (in response to *Rich*)It's complimentary (with Adobe's compliments) not "complementary". So, it's a freebie as an incentive to register your software.
You could have made a typo when attempting to redeem your coupon (similar to your mistyping complimentary here), or you may have waited too long to do it. Lynda.com will be able to tell you.

…and who can blame Jeff? Succinct, concise and pithy posts get the fastest and best results; verbosity tends to irritate your fellow users, especially in such a trivial matter as this.
Nevertheless, Jeff gave you the most helpful reply possible: contact lynda.com.

Again: Contact lynda.com.

Wade_Zimmerman Dec 26, 2010 8:55 PM (in response to Tai Lao)And besides Jeff Schewe is a pretty cranky guy.
But I kind of agree with everyone here, you should have stated your question in a more simply form and then made certain you were seeking other users who had the some problem and find out how and if the were able to resolve the issue.

*Rich* Dec 27, 2010 9:11 AM (in response to Wade_Zimmerman)Sorry guys, I'm new to this forum -- more familiar with using the Apple forum.
I guess, "Benefits link don't work no more? WTF!!!" would have been more appropriate post for this forum.

No; the most appropriate thing would have been not to post here and contact lynda.com directly.

lleolyons Mar 3, 2011 3:05 AM (in response to Tai Lao)Well what a polite and friendly bunch of guys there are on this forum. I too have problems with the complimentary benefits having just bought CS5. I was going to ask for advice on here - but can see it would not be worth bothering. So this is what you call a community - huh? I am pleased some of you guys are doing so well you have the time to be rude and oh so superior to someone who politely asks for advice. The phrase 'Grow Up!' springs to mind.

Thanks, its refreshing that someone besides myself feels this way about the few cranky self-appointed "forum police" that dominate this forum . Since I committed the unforgivable sin of blaspheming this forum with a TYPO, I have not returned until now -- but only to respond to your comment and actually offer some help. I received an automated email when you posted your comment.
I still stand by my logic that Adobe should remedy bad links on their website concerning their own promo offers, which they didn't. And many folks are having this problem, which makes it a Photoshop Community issue -- the purpose of this forum.
So, rant aside, I must admit that I was able to get immediate and cordial help over at Lynda.com -- a great bunch of people who care. Just call their Customer Support number 888.335.9632, give them your Adobe promo validation code, and they will set everything up for you.

Glad you got the issue resolved...the point of my "cranky" post was that Lynda.com was the correct place to go to get help and that as a user to user forum, we couldn't help you. In point of fact, my post wasn't "cranky" it was brief and to the point; this forum is for users helping users and there was zero we could do to resolve your issues and to go to the source to get it resolved. Which you did.

12. Re: Complementary Benefits for New Purchase Not Valid?
Wade_Zimmerman Mar 3, 2011 11:44 AM (in response to *Rich*)I think you were guided very well by the information and you did the right thing by contacting people associated with Lynda.com. You were simply frustrated that we referred you to another forum thinking, perhaps we did not want to help you?
But if you understand what was posted as not being personal then you would read it very differently.
What you would have read even though not written this way…
Rich, you know I have to be honest with you, you really are going to do much better on the Lynda.com site as they probably experience the issues of redemption of the benefit program and I don't think anyone here will be of much help we re only users like yourself.
Now if you also see your part in what you perceive to be a poor response then the whole thing is something you now laugh off as a misunderstanding on your part.
That misunderstanding is due to your expectations of getting answer even though you were in the wrong place, but look at it as Jeff suggested once you were in the right place your answer was forth coming and quick.
So you should actually mark Jeff's first post as the answer. It did get you what you wanted.
Now you can feel like the other responder and never return but then you will miss out on the knowledge and experience that user's like Jeff can offer you.
And Tai is also extremely knowledgable. So you really want to return.

13. Re: Complementary Benefits for New Purchase Not Valid?
Wade_Zimmerman Mar 3, 2011 5:51 PM (in response to Jeff Schewe)Well actually I apologize for the bad joke I made using the word cranky which was just intended to be light hearted and I really meant that sometimes wen someone on the forum is really giving good straight forward advice they have been accused of being cranky or much worse even though the targe of those statements is actually helping and offering good instruction.
I shouldn't have worded it that way and there was nothing I can see to even indicate any such attitude other than cordial.

:~)
Well, I wouldn't call me "cordial" either...I'm blunt and brief...too many question and too little time ya know? If people read anything into that, that's their baggage, not mine. That's not to say I avoid the odd "dust up" but I rarely pounce unless provided. My first answer was blunt and brief and that's all (and it turned out being right).
