That's an application-level setting. Under the 'Forms' menu, select 'Highlight Fields'.
Edit: Sorry, the 'Forms' menu is in Acrobat Professional, not in Reader. Depending on the version you are using, you should see the 'Highlight' fields button at the top right of the window when the form is opened. If not, click on the 'Form' icon on the left of the Reader window to show the button.
Making the form in acrobat 9 pro, wanting to use form on reader9.4. Pro shows highlighted fields (and is selected) reader does not. Setting got changed in reader? When you type in a field in reader is flashes on blue until you are done typing, little different looking smaller blue box around text, not the whole field. Anyway, I will try and look for setting on reader. thanks
thanks for your help, figured it out.. my mistake somehow I must have hit the highlight button and turned it off.. stupid on my part.. i am new user of acrobat pro.. learning. thanks
