Unfortunately, you haven't told us enough about your system or set-up for us to be able to help, chemist.
Meantime, have you gone to the File menu and tried to open a New project?
System is Windows Vista,
Welcome to the forum.
What would be very useful would be info, like your graphics card, and especially the driver version that you have installed.
When displays act up, it is usually an older driver version, but without knowing, it's tough to offer the fix. Dell makes tons of computers, and if it IS the video driver, it would be impossible to direct you, as Dell uses several different video cards, and of course, drivers.
Also, do you have the very latest Apple QT Player installed?
Here are some general points you should work through to maximise your chances of success
Install all Windows Updates.
Install latest version of Apple QuickTime (v7.6.9 at time of writing). Even if you don't use QuickTime, PRE relies heavily on it.
- Install most recent graphics and sound drivers from the manufacturers web sites.
- Run Disk Cleanup.
- Run Defragmenter.
- Temporarily disable any anti-virus realtime scanning.
And give us some information about your clip and hardware:
- Use the GSpot Codec Information Utility to analyse the file and post screen image.
- What project preset did you use?
- Where did the clip come from?
- How did you get it into PRE?
- Post back here with the necessary information described here: Got a Problem? How to Get Started
Insanity is hereditary, you get it from your children
I've seen this happening when the antivirus software has realtime scan enabled.
Somehow the realtime scanning blocks the panels from showing.
That was for Premiere Elements 8, but it wouldn't surprise me if this were the case for Elements 9 as well.
Thank you for your help. I changed realtime scanning settings and now Premiere E
lements works (the panels come up).
Glad you found a solution!
As I say in my books, both the free version of Avast! and Windows Security Essentials are antivirus apps that work much better with Premiere Elements -- and are FREE! I highly recommend replacing Norton, McAfee or whatever you're using with one of them. You'll see a much better running machine all around!
