You will lose any Dynamic Link functionality, which only comes with the suite.
I'd recommend saving your pennies until you can afford that. It can be a BIG time saver.
I agree with Jim that the best thing to do is to upgrade the whole Production Premium suite, so that you can use the suite features like Dynamic Link.
Take a college class... get a student ID... buy the Education version - a full Education version costs less than a retail upgrade
Or, if your college is not listed above, use your student ID at...
Both sites below require proof of student status, per Adobe licensing

assuming I have a bunch of videos to edit right now, and I can only afford to upgrade premiere from cs4 to cs5 right now...and need to sorta bite the bullet and just upgrade premiere cs5 .....due to time and money restrictions this minute....is it possible to use any AE4 stuff with PP CS5 ??
That is a very good idea. I got most of my CS4 programs that way, but finished
school about a year and a half ago......
is it possible to use any AE4 stuff with PP CS5 ??
The only "stuff" I can imagine from AE CS4 would be an exported file. Are you asking if such would work with CS5?
The Exported AE files will work just fine (so long as your Export settings are correct for you PrPro Project). It's exactly like doing an Export from one PrPro Project, and then Importing that into another PrPro Project.
As mentioned, it's ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link) that you will be missing.
This is what I thought. Thanks for asking Rod.
conumdrum is at this point the use of a pretty good 64 bit computer with PP cs5 rated graphics card, using at present cs4 and wanting to get more speed and functionality out of the computer and new card, but only being able to upgrade PP cs4 to pp cs5 at this time.
keep getting suggestions to become student, save money, buy suite, and all sorts of stuff that sorta isnt addressing the question of what will actually be compatible and work well re: having cs4 but only PP cs5 upgraded... like adl wont work but thats OK I think, as its rarely used if ever anyway.
I dont have ANY 64 bit programs on my machine and don't know what ( if any ) problems may exist inherent with using 32 bit with other 64 bit programs.. kinda have no clue.
Im sorta trying to help Jessica with her problems as its hard to make a decision now about what to DO..what choices are available...know what I mean ? she could go back to her old graphics card and use prodad, or upgrade pp to cs5 and use the increased functionality and speed of that in "editing" ( expecially HD )... and plus still be able to use magic bullet if desired with cs5....
ps, and since she hasnt asked for me to butt in like this I think I'll just kinda drift off and get some beers and hope info is available as needed
Looks won't be sped up by upgrading Premiere Pro.
