Any chance you could post the source code to a simple sample application that demonstrates this?
Hi - yes no problem: I've uploaded a sample app here: http://crackedfrog.com/files/AndroidAIRMap.zip.
You'll need to add a valid Google Maps API key and corresponding URL back into the maps:Map3D object:
<maps:Map3D left="0" right="0" top="0" bottom="0"
This shows the same behaviour as described above - around 2 minutes to start up when debugging on the device.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks for posting your sample project. I looked at this project and it appears that the problem is that the Google Maps API takes much longer to load in AIR than it does in Flash Player. I suspect that this is because of the different security model Google uses in AIR, see this page for more information:
It looks like there is a bug filed against the Google Maps API here:
A Google employee on that page says "We're looking into it." so hopefully we can expect a fix from them soon.
Thanks for tracking down the Google bug report - I'd been aware of that as a reported issue in AIR on PCs before (although my own medium sized AIR app has never exhibited the reported behaviour), however it looks like a there's a consistent set of reports out there for AIR on Android.
Hopefully they'll have a fix soon, as it leaves Google Map support on Android using AIR pretty much dead in the water as is...
Glad I found this post i was smacking my head against the wall
Have a thought about a work around.
What is we do a StageWeb Via a HTML page.
Or am I pissing in the wind..
