are you testing that code in your browser?
No I am not using the browser to test it out. I did a 'Control + Enter' from within the Flash environment. I was expecting the statement to be printed to the output console withing flash, but it wasn't.
application.onAppStart = function()
trace("The deux is out of the deck");
if you see "test" and not the other trace, your method is not called. if you see nothing, either the frame that contains that code doesn't play, there's a compiler error or you have trace statements disabled.
Found out a few things. The 'onAppStart' method resides in the .asc file which is located in the 'applications' folder. Trace statments from these files can't be seen in the output console of the Flash environment. They have to be seen via the FMS admin console. I am able to see the trace statments from the 'onConnect' method, but not the 'onAppStart' method. Even putting a test trace statment before the 'onAppStart' method dosent work.
It's me again, I found out why the 'onAppStart' was not invoked. I have to 'load' the application first in the FMS Admin Server via the admin console first, before I fire the program from Flash( i.e 'Cntrl + Enter'). Once I do that, all the trace statements within the 'onAppStart' method gets invoked,infact even the one placed above the method, for testing purpose, works.
