1. Leave it as 1440 x 1080 with a PAR of 1.33
2. Make it 1920 x 1080 with PAR 1.0
BTW 1440 x 1080 is not cropped, is uses a different PAR (pixel aspect ratio).

I always thought the 1440 x 1080 was the HD in 4x3 aspect ratio that was cropped to create 16x9. Also would that be square pixels? That part confuses me too.
Both formats are 16:9.
1920 x 1080 uses square pixels (PAR 1.00) and 1440 x 1080 uses rectangular pixels (PAR 1.33) and if you multiply 1440 with 1.33 you end up with the same 1920 width. If you do the conversion to square pixels on export, using the HDTV High Quality settings, your TV does not need to recalculate the PAR. You leave the work to your PC.
There actually are no 4:3 HD standards. All HD formats are 16:9.
