Photoshop Plugins migration CS3 to CS5

    inHaliburton

I think I know the answer already due to the fact I can't find a discussion on the matter.

Is it possible to Copy and Paste, or link the 3rd party plugins from CS3 to CS5? If not, this would be a neat feature. I've got a pile of plugins what will take me at least a day to install them again and get running properly.

I'm using Vista, 32 bit versions in both versions.

      Thanks, Paul.

          Hi,

No, there is no way to link them.

Also I can say that some 3rd party downloads that worked with CS3 may not work with CS5. If so you will need to visit the 3rd party vendor and get the updated version for CS5.

That's why it is important to chose an additional plug-ins folder in Edit>Preferences>Plug-ins. Install your plug-ins there, you should be able to point to the same folder for the next version of Photoshop.

Thanks from both of you for the advice.

I did the additional folder thing. Wish I knew about it long ago.

Any opinion on simply copying the plugins from the plugin folder in CS3 to the CS5 "additional plugins" folder? I'm going to try it for laughs and see if any of them work.

I've had the CS5 upgrade from CS3 for a while now, and up until now, have been getting by with using NX2 and CS5 Photoshop.

Ever since the release of NX2, I find that I rarely have to visit Photoshop. NX2 does such a great of of converting RAW files and many other edits.

For printing I use Quimage Ultimate.

              Thanks again, Paul.

                function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}

Literally not completely accurate, because Photoshop can load a plug-in through a shortcut.  Yes, it's true.

That said, I would never suggest someone link from one version of Photoshop to another.

Your best bet is to get new installers.  Failing that, it MAY be possible to copy all the pertinent files from under the Photoshop CS3 plug-ins folder to CS5.  Keep in mind that many plug-ins also put things in the Photoshop main folder.

Never gave a shortcut a thought. Thanks for the info.
